Netbooks are often said to be underpowered due to the Intel Atom CPUs that are being put in them. Well, that’s about to change.
On Monday, Intel announced that their new dual-core Atom processor will be shipped along with a dozen of new netbooks. These new netbooks will be manufactured by ASUS, LG, Fujitsu, Toshiba, Lenovo, Samsung and Acer and they are said to have “new levels of support” for Flash-based content.
The new CPU will be based on the Pinetrail technology and will be about 20 percent faster than its predecessor, the Intel Atom N450.Even though it will feature two cores with two threads each, the processor will still be as light, slim and energy efficient as it was before.
Hopefully this new CPU will reduce the competition from the iPad and give netbooks some more life.
